What is a 7.5 Tonne driver?
A 7.5 tonne driver holds a Category C1 driving licence, allowing them to drive vehicles between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes. Drivers who passed their car test before 1 January 1997 typically hold C1 entitlement automatically; otherwise it requires a separate test. A valid Driver CPC and Digital Tacho card are required for paid work. Common 7.5 tonne work includes multi-drop last-mile delivery, courier work, and store replenishment.
